Role Models

Today our grade has done an activity on being a role model. The idea was to pick out 3 people and list traits that make them a role model. Then you had to choose the 5 best traits which you talked about in a group.

The Traits I represent are

Confidence – I Stand up in front of the whole school every other week.
Respectful – I listen to everybody’s opinion.
Inspiring – I always try to complete a task to the best of my ability.
Humorous – I make jokes that make people laugh.

This lesson has taught me that not everyone is perfect yet we all can be amazing.

Oaks Day – Fashion on the Field

Today, Grade 6 held a fashion competition. The idea was to write a description on a partners wear. This was the one I wrote,

A soft silk tie, perfectly complementing his woven slate top. The top is a combination of fine black buttons and perfect stitching all fabricated in a smooth fine fabric. His custom made checked charcoal hat glimmers in the light. A smooth black set of trousers perfectly tying the look, that makes even the most refined nervous, together.

I also had a description written about me. I was voted one of the Best dressed and described in my class. I then competed in the finals, walking in front of all of the 4s and 6s but unfortunately didn’t win anything.

MAPS

For the last term my grade has been doing MAPS (Mental Arisemitics and Problem Solving) with a goal of 40 questions or higher. We also were aiming to beat our average rounded in the revisions.

I achieved this goal in all 4 sheets and got the same average on my revision sheet, 48.

Because of my high score and the reason for my mistakes (Incorrectly Reading) I am moving up to book 7 and slightly increasing my average to 41 correct.

Cornell Notes

We created pieces based on a poster. This includes surface features such as correct spelling of common words and hidden featuressuch as strong language.

I completed most of the surface features and included technical vocabulary and strong language.

My goal for the next time we do this is to include more stronger language and more persuasive techniques because I felt mine was lacking in these elements.

The Netherlands – Reflection

On Wednesday Ethan and I presented our work on The Netherlands. While working on this I found out some things that were interesting like the Dutch invented cheese and the windmill, two extremely influential inventions. This is why we create a model of a windmill and found a picture counterpart. We worked extremely well together and focused on the task. I think that I reached my goal of staying on topic, a point I needed to improve. Nearly everybody liked the amount and depth of our information. A point of improvement is spelling since there are a few points with incorrect spelling. Another point of improvement is stuttering over a few word. I think that there were no points that should be removed since for everyone who said they hated something two people said they liked it.

Lesson in Italian

Today Ms Morris taught us a lesson in Italian to show us how it feels to be an Immigrant from another country. I found it was a enjoyable experience because I increased my knowledge on another language. I found the lesson easy because most of the Italian words corresponded to a Latin counterpart. It was hard to understand what Ms Morris was saying at some points when using words such as molto bene or very good. One of the most difficult parts was when responding because I have had little past experience with Italian. I found it interesting how some words corresponded to a English counterpart like blu and blue. This lesson has also made me want to learn another language.
